Equipment

  • Measuring Utensils
  • Measuring Cup
  • Medium Mixing Bowl
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Knife
  • Cast Iron Skillet
  • Plate
  • Paper Towel
  • Tongs
  • Thermometer
  • Flat Spatula

Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoon Butter Melted
  • 2 Tablespoon Honey
  • Cup Milk Warm
  • 2 Cups Self-Rising Flour
  • Oil For Frying

Instructions

  • In the medium-sized mixing bowl, add two tablespoons of melted butter, warm milk, and self-rising flour to the bowl. Mix to combine with the flat spatula.
  • When the dough starts to thicken, use your hands to knead the dough. As the ingredients mix together, form into a bowl.
  • Place the dough in the bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Allow the dough to sit for 15 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour on a clean and flat surface. After the dough has been set for 15 minutes, set the dough on the surface. Knead for about 30 seconds.
  • Place the dough on a cutting board. Cut the dough into eight equally-sized pieces with a knife.
  • The dough should be in eight equally-sized pieces. Now, flatten each individual piece to spread into a thin circle, around 5 inches in diameter.
  • Place the cast iron skillet on a burner. Add a ½ inch of oil to the skillet. Turn up the heat until the oil reaches 365 F, using a thermometer to test the temperature.
  • Once the oil has reached 365 F, use the tongs to add 2-3 dough pieces, depending on the size of your skillet, to the skillet.
  • Fry the dough pieces for around a minute on each side. A good indicator is a golden brown coloring for each side. Repeat until all the dough pieces have been fried.
  • Set the fried bread pieces on a paper-lined plate until finished cooking all the pieces.
  • When ready to be eaten, place fried bread on a separate plate. Drizzle with melted butter and honey before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Fry Bread can easily be reheated in an air fryer or in the oven for optimal crispiness!
  • The fry bread can be kept at room temperature for around 2 days. It is advised to wrap the fry bread in plastic wrap. To elongate the shelf life of your fry bread, store it in the freezer for around 4 months in a freezer storage bag. Another option is placing the fry bread in a Ziploc bag and placing it in the refrigerator to elongate its shelf life to about 1 week.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or brown sugar for the best sweet addition to your homemade fry bread!
